The BMW Day

All the post today will be about the BMW Cars Company.

2010 BMW X3 M-Sport package,

After revealing the second generation BMW X3, the German company has also decided to announce details on the new X3 equipped with an M-Sport package. This setup will be available from the second quarter of 2011, tentatively. Prices will be announced at a later date.

The new BMW X3 M-Sport package will be available in a rich Carbon Black metallic paint finish and will feature powerful 19" M light-weight alloy wheels and sports suspensions. On the interior it will get an M multifunction leather steering wheel and variable sports steering, an M gear selection lever, gearshift paddles, ergonomically shaped sports seats, Pearlpoint cloth-leather upholstery, and an Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner.

The M Sports package will include the side skirts, wheel arches, and front and rear aprons to match the exterior body color. An example of this is the Carbon Black metallic paint finish that is exclusive to the M Sports package. Window surrounds and roof rails have also been jazzed up by high-gloss BMW Individual Shadow Line.

2011 BMW 5-Series by Hamann.

After tuning the SLS AMG, Hamann has decided to take a peek at the BMW 5-Series as well. For the moment the package is only focusing on improving the car’s aerodynamic, but an engine update will be offered in the future.

The exterior package includes a front spoiler, aggressive side skirts, a rear bumper center valence, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a trunk-mounted spoiler. The tuner is also offering a lowering kit that reduces the car’s height by 35 mm. The exterior package is finished by 20" wheels, LED daytime running light inserts, and a stainless steel four-tailpipe sport exhaust system.

The interior gets a carbon fiber package for the decorative strip 2 pieced for dashboard, inside door handle covers front & rear, decorative strip 3 pieced for center console, and steering wheel cover. There is also a set of aluminum pedals and branded floor mats. Prices will be announced at a later date.

Comparing the package for the Mercedes SLS AMG and the BMW 5-Series, we think the package for the BMW is much more well-rounded than the SLS AMG’s package. Hamann has succeeded in completing the look of the BMW and making it look that much better and more expensive. This tuning package allows the 5-series to have an even cleaner and more striking appearance.

1972 BMW 3.0 CSi

Today BMW delivered a completely restored 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi to its owner. This occasion marked the very first full restoration completed by the BMW Classic Customer Workshop and the first time BMW Welt has delivered a classic vehicle, as opposed to a brand new one, to a customer.

The owner had a specific request for his CSi. He wanted BMW to convert the four-speed manual gearbox to an automatic, something that had previously been done only with two prototypes of the BMW 3.0 CSi. It was fitted with an automatic transmission from a BMW 2.8 CS. Other than the gearbox conversion, the experts at the BMW Classic Center had to repair a lot of body damage done to the vehicle as well as iron out technical and electronic defects. The process for this vehicle restoration took months of research and hard work, but it all paid off once the car was delivered to its owner in perfect condition. Perfect condition being the only one acceptable by the customer.

2012 BMW Gran Coupe Preview

Alas, BMW has not been tempting us with a model that will not ever see the light of day. Thankfully, they have come to their collective senses and decided to give us a BMW with a little personality. Okay, well, hopefully.

BMW has pushed the Gran Coupe concept through to production and not a moment too soon. With the Audi A7 lurking at the segment and the Mercedes CLS in its second version, BMW needed a star. Turns out, that star will be the Gran Coupe and will debut in 2012.

According to BMW Blog, the BMW Gran Coupe will be sold under the 6-Series badge and will share some of the features from that model line. However, the Gran Coupe will also keep some of the features that made the concept so attractive at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year including the frameless windows and B-pillar. The model will be available in an even mixture of gasoline and diesel engines with an ActiveHybrid also in the works.

2010 BMW 760Li by Lumma Design Preview

We’ve been thrown a bone, but we aren’t quite sure if it’s tasty yet. In an email sent to TopSpeed we have received several images of the BMW 760Li V12 Individual tuned up by Lumma Design. The email doesn’t say much, but it does say that the tuning package will be revealed in three weeks time and that the first demonstration car is currently in Switzerland.

From what we can tell from these images, the Lumma BMW 760Li has received a new front spoiler with larger air intakes, new side skirts, and a new rear spoiler. LED daytime running lights can also be seen as well as some wider fenders with air vents. Carbon fiber trim can also be seen on the mirror caps, grille, side vents, and trunk.

We can only imagine that the V12 sitting under the hood has received some modification as well. No use in tuning a car if you’re not going to pump up the power, right? Interior modifications are also expected, but we don’t really care about those as much.

2010 BMW 3-series Dynamic Edition

South Africa’s BMW Roslyn plant will officially launch a new, limited edition version of the much fabled BMW 3-Series sedan. This edition will be called the "Dynamic Edition’ and will be available only in the four-cylinder 320i petrol and 320d turbo diesel and the turbocharged straight-six 335i sedans. The ceiling for these models will be set at 300 vehicles.

The ‘Dynamic Edition’ models combine elements from the M-Sport package as well as some from the BMW Performance program such as a carbon fiber front air dam splitter, side mirror add-on’s, and a rear spoiler. It will come in Alpine White, Blue Water Metallic, and Space Grey Metallic exterior paint finishes with royal blue piping in the floor mats. The seats will come with Blue Shadow cloth and alcantara upholstery with royal blue stitching. The Dynamic package will also see engine software upgrades to improve performance for the limited edition sedan. The package is rounded off with dark chrome 18-inch alloy wheels and dark chrome tail pipes.
