2010 RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580

There has to be a certain amount of thrill in the ride and insanity in the mind to race up a mountain at incredible speeds. There also has to be an extreme amount of talent to achieve such a feat. Rhys Millen has that talent and, together with Hyundai and his team, will be showcasing it at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Unlimited Class in none other than his LeMans-style PM580 racing prototype.

The PM580 is powered by a 4.1-liter Hyundai Lambda turbocharged V6 engine capable to deliver (as current tests show) a total of 750 hp. The car will feature a carbon fiber aerodynamic body with an active rear wing. The wing will create less drag in the straight-aways and more stability in cornering and braking. Active wings are outlawed in other forms of racing.

The RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580 will use an active center differential. This differential will allow a 10 to 100 percent torque split to the front wheels. This is important because the course changes from asphalt to dirt multiple times and allows the Genesis PM580 to have more than one set up on the 12.42-mile course. The car will be ideal on the mixed surface at Pikes Peak. The Genesis PM580 addresses a fundamental reason on perhaps why the 10-minute record has not fallen. Most race cars do not work well on both dirt and asphalt.

Millen will be trying to defeat a record of 10:01.41 set by Nobuhiro Tajima in 2007 with his Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special and will also be trying to reclaim the record for the Millen family. Prior to Tajima’s race, the record was held by Rod Millen, Rhys’ father, for a total of 13 years before it was overtaken. We are sure there will be a certain amount of pride pushing that PM580 in the race to the clouds.

2010 Hyundai Aebulle Concept

Is this what the Hyundai of the future will look like? This concept was designed by Shane Baxley from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. It is called Aebulle ("aebulle" means "cocoon" in Korean) and represents a futuristic three-wheeler vehicle with an electric powertrain and a magnesium frame.

"The main idea was to design a personal vehicle that delivers the mobility and speed of a motorcycle while offering the safety that a cocoon offers a butterfly. The Aebulle is targeted for the Los Angeles region where it would utilize the commuter lanes allowing its occupant a quick commute."

The concept was designed to be powered by compact in-wheel electric motors coupled with lithium batteries stored in the floor of the vehicle. It’s front wheels are connected to separate independent swing arms that allow the Aebulle to glide around corners. The body is made up of an aluminum frame and the "windshield" is made up of aluminum oxynitride glass. The whole top of the three-wheeler lifts up, taking with it the center console and allowing the passenger to make his exit.

2011 Hyundai Equus - U.S. Version

South Korea’s motoring conglomerate, Hyundai, is set to introduce its flagship Equus luxury sedan to the US market. With stiff competition from Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti, Hyundai is planning an onslaught on the top dogs with its relatively cheaper grand saloon, with prices starting at above $50,000.

Directly aimed at the Mercedes Benz S class, the Equus will be offered in two variants: Equus Signature and Equus Ultimate. These two models will be powered by Hyundai’s inhouse Tau V8 engine pumping a timid 385 bhp,which is below par as compared to what’s being offered by the rest of the luxury sedan gang.

With an emphasis on offering better value for the money, Hyundai is equipping this grand sedan with goodies that hardly anyone can ignore. In the signature model, a top lexicon audio system with 17 speakers and an electronic damping suspension system, amongst other innovations, will be offered as standard.

For the range topping Equus ultimate version, rear reclining seats with cooling facility, power headrests, and a rear based entertainment unit will be offered by Hyundai for ultimate comfort.

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec

Hyundai has unveiled details on the 2011 Genesis Coupe model. The model comes with interior updates and a revised lineup including a sizzling model called the 3.8 R-Spec.

The new Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec is powered by a 3.8 liter V6 engine that delivers 306 HP and is mated to a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission. It can hit a top speed of 149 mph.

The new version is distinguished by 19" gunmetal-finish alloy wheels, a track-tuned suspension, black leather bolsters with red cloth insert seats, R-Spec badge, front camber adjustment bolt, fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, power windows with auto-down/up, and power door locks and outside mirrors.

The 2011 Genesis will get new soft-touch, matte-finish surfaces on door panels, center speaker grille, glove box, and lower instrument panel, new dark metalgrain accents on center stack, door handles, air vent register bezels and steering wheel trim, and chrome accents.

Pricing for the 3.8 R-Spec has not yet been released. We will keep everyone posted as soon as we receive further details!

2011 Hyundai i20

Hyundai has unveiled today the first details on the 2011 i20. This new model receives minor changes to the aerodynamics and engine compared to the previous. In UK the new i20 is on sale for £9,520.

On the exterior the 2011 Hyundai i20 receives a small spoiler underneath of the car to improve airflow around the wheels. On the interior the dashboard and instrument illumination is now blue rather than red and Bluetooth phone connectivity with voice recognition has been added as standard.

The engine line-up for the i20 will include the entry level 1.2-liter petrol engine, a 1.4-liter engine, and two diesel engines with either 75HP or 90 HP. All engines come with significant fuel consumption improvement and are mated to a six-speed gearbox. This was possible due to a Eco Drive indicator in the instrument panel that suggests the best point to change gear, using low friction engine oil and an alternator management system.

2010 Hyundai Genesis

Enjoying all kinds of success in 2009, the Hyundai Genesis sedan is being updated for the 2010 model year with available convenience options like Smart Cruise Control, touch-screen navigation and an electronic parking brake with a very convenient automatic vehicle hold. The bargain priced luxury sedan will go on sale starting from $33,800 for the base model 3.8L V6 powered version and The 3.8 Liter DOHC Lambda V6 engine delivers a maximum output of 290 HP and 264 lb-ft of torque thanks to its Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system on both the intake and exhaust cam shafts as well as a new Variable Intake System (VIS) that helps the cylinders breathe more efficiently throughout its entire RPM range. The 4.6 Liter Tau V8 engine delivers a maximum of 375 HP and is mated to a ZF built 6 speed automatic transmission complete with SHIFTRONIC manual shift control. For the 2010 model year, the Genesis comes equipped with intelligent cruise control and an electronic parking brake on Technology Package equipped models, while the Ultra-premium leather seating surfaces come standard on the 3.8 Liter Genesis models with Premium, Premium Navigation, and Technology Packages. 2011 Hyundai Equus

Yesterday, Hyundai unveiled the 2011 Sonata Hybrid and 2011 Sonata 2.0T. Today, they brought us the 2011 Equus luxury sedan which makes us take Hyundai a little more seriously than we have before. It will compete with models such as the Lexus LS 460 and the Mercedes-Benz S550 and will go on sale with a starting price in the mid $50,000 range.

The 2011 Equus shares the same architecture as the Genesis sedan, but it’s 7.2 inches longer. It is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine that delivers 385 HP and 333 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control.

The exterior design is defined by a subtle horizontal radiator grille, well-proportioned headlamps, LED turn signals, bolder lower air intakes, bold taillights, strong shoulders, fully-integrated asymmetrical exhaust tips an,d rear LED turn signal indicators. In the interior, Equus adds leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, natural wood trim, and a leather-wrapped French-stitched instrument panel.

2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T

Starting today the 2011 Sonata will get a new version: 2.0T, a model powered by a 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engine rated at 274 hp at 6,000 rpm and 269 lb-ft of torque from 1800-4500 rpm and mated to a a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control. The 2.0T engine will be available on the SE and Limited trim level.

The Sonata 2.0T will be distinguished from the regular version by a new panoramic sunroof, 18" hyper silver alloy wheels, dual exhaust system and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

This is the first Hyundai vehicle to have both GDI technology and a turbocharger. Sales will begin later this year.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai unveiled the 2011 Sonata hybrid today at the New York Auto Show. It is Hyundai’s first hybrid in the U.S. market and will go on sale later this year.

The 2011 Sonata Hybrid uses Hyundai’s new Hybrid Blue Drive - hybrid system that combines a 2.4-liter Theta II engine (169 hp at 6,000 rpm and 156 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm) with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 30kW (151 lb-ft) electric motor. The electric engine is recharged by 270V lithium polymer rechargeable battery.

Compared to a standard Sonata, the hybrid version is even more aerodynamic thanks to the addition of new bumper fascias, rocker panels, a bold hexagonal grille, eco-spoke wheels and, air dam and aero side sills.
